I've had no problems getting solaris 2.6 gcc to work on 2.8 (in 
fact, I've had no problems getting solaris 2.6 Sun c to work on 
2.8 as well).

I don't know why configure in one case found ncurses and the 
other case didn't - as I said, I used the same configure script 
(which I included in the previous msg).
