I agree that if you just want to download a specific file, a dedicated
program for that purpose (e.g., wget or curl) may be more efficient.
As I look at my original reply, however, I am not sure it is correct.
I probably should have said:
lynx -source "http://lynx.isc.org/curent/lynx2.8.5dev.7.tar.gz"; > lynx2.8.5dev.7.tar.gz
