I found a case where lynx did crash, and isolated it to a bug in cygwin.
The case I found has a workaround, which is in my current development
patch at
ftp://invisible-island.net/temp/lynx2.8.5dev.8k.patch.gz
(for isolating it, both gdb and strace were worthless - the bug would go away
when using those tools ;-)
