I think you're confusing. The attached patch from Corinna fixes
the shell problem (there's no "- does not work with screen").

What I also reported is that the same code which made it break
with screen and you removed from dev.12 IS in their 2.8.4-3.

It probably is related, because their 2.8.4-3 binary works with
