Yes, indeed. It's GNU ld that is used. It's from gcc 2.6.3 (no
comment...) linking with the system /bin/ld succeeds, but the
executable segfaults.
If I find the time I'll upgrade gcc, but no promise. So for the moment
no SunOS binary... (I assume building a dynamically linked one isn't an
option)
