I am not subscribed to this list, so don't know if you are aware of
rtf2latex2e, a program which can convert RTF (M$) files to LaTeX. It
would be possible hopefully to write a wrapper for this program, whose
output could be further processed by reLyX. In that way, LyX would be able
to import documents written with M$ Word or Write, etc..., facilitating
the move from M$ products to LyX.
Personally, I do not speak C nor C++, but think it should be relatively
easy to provide a kind of 'hook' from inside LyX. Rtf2latex2e process
fairly well even moderately complex RTF files, including tables,
normal footnotes (not yet in tables), text styles, and more.
