You should configure with ``configure --prefix=/usr''

I don't know about this or why it wouldn't work for you. Can you try
my RPM and tell me if it's still broken for you?

Yes. The lyx-1.0.4 RPM has the files in /usr/share/lyx/tex as well.
The tetex-lyx package simply re-packages these files in the usual
place for the tetex package to see them.

I don't think these files have changed since 1.0.4, so you don't really
need to install tetex-lyx-1.1.1pre2 (what you have will work).
