IIRC, Debian uses lyxrc.dist. I think they make it a symlink to
/etc/lyxrc or something like that.

I think that the names and defaults should not be changed so easily.
One should try hard to not introduce compatibility problems with
previous releases.

Now, to solve the problem arised on Windows, why not simply read
lyxrc.dist *after* lyxrc.defaults? After all, it is called lyxrc.dist
and not lyxrc.ini. Moreover, it makes sense to be able to override
defaults in lyxrc.dist, doesn't it?
