Is scons the preferred build system nowadays?

None of the people in Denmark use it.

Do they use cmake? Or do they use window at all?

Windows people are now using cmake because of its msvc advantage, but
I am using scons under linux, for cygwin package maintenance and will
fix things if mingw/msvc support breaks. For any of these windows
environments, autotools can not compete.

Anyway, I am a bit disappointed with scons now because of its slow
progress. New features are not released even if it has been in svn for
quite a while, and critical problems are not addressed in time. There
are good news such as a core developer is newly hired by vmware to
lead a team to develop scons, but the result will take months to be
seen.

Keeping three building tools around may not be the best thing but we
do not have a better choice now. scons' vc support and performance may
be worse than cmake but maintainability, reliability and portability
may be better. At least in theory, scons (now) should not have the
full-recompile problem Abdel had with cmake a few days ago.

So, the current situation is not that bad, and time will make the
choice for us later.

Have a nice vacation, people in Denmark.
