That is something that I do not understand: Why do we need to know some internal font encoding in the core? Why is that not done by qt for us? This looks like a poor design to me. There is also a suspicious operator<< at the end of docstream.hpp. I asked why it was introduced and suggested to put the usual assert for pure ASCII in, but got no answer. Probably my mail was lost in the flood of other messages. Georg
