I agree with Martin, I am worried with the possible implications for Mac. I would like to see this issue cleared before the patch being applied.

Hmmm, according to the code (AFAICS) it should be doing a
single-paragraph update only. But Abdel reports a whole-screen update.

The singlePar optimisation depends on the keyboard cursor position. I think it won't be easy to get it right without ugly hacks. The only true way to solve this is to split the drawing as explained in another email. I don't think this will happen in 1.5 so, as I am sure there would be a problem with Mac, I'd say that you should either make this new feature configurable or disabled on Mac.
