Actually, the extra menu is named "special" and it is added *before*
File. I was trying to make plans on how to hide it, but it seems that
Qt/Mac does this for me (presumably because it removed all its
contents). Yay!
Final checks:
- did you check that stuff like Document>Settings is not removed?
Yes: that is there.
- what happens in non-english locale?
I checked with LANG=FR_fr. Accents appear correctly. But in this case
the LyX menu on the left does not have About LyX, and the Preferences
item is grayed out (but note that in this case no accents). There is
a "special" menu immediately to the right of the left LyX menu,
containing "À Propos de LyX" and "Préférences" items, both of which
work correctly. There is a Document > Paramètres menu item.
Also, the rightmost LyX menu remains.
