Thanks for reporting the problem ;-)
I think, however, that there may be a more basic problem, which probably
also caused this one, and the more basic problem still exists: it seems
that the document area now has to be clicked in order to get keyboard
focus. This also affects keyboard shortcuts, not just typing text.
For example:
1) Start LyX, don't click in it with the mouse, and try opening a new
document using the keyboard shortcut -- it doesn't work. You first have
to click in the document area, and only then are keyboard shortcuts
accepted.
2) Start LyX, with the mouse open a new document, but don't click in the
document area. If you try typing in --- or closing the document with the
keyboard shortcut, for that matter --- nothing happens. You first have
to click in the document area.
Both issues are fixed but don't hesitate to report any that remains.
