I think one misunderstanding is about the use of bookmarks. In 1.4, the use I had for bookmarks was when working in two different places of a document. Then it was useful (maybe for a short time) to be able to switch between one and the other with a simple key. Setting them simply was useful too. The fact that these were just number was not a problem since it was a short-term task. In this point of view, the main benefit of your new code is that bookmarks are now cross-buffer. Having 20 entries or saving is not useful, and the new FIFO is not better than the previous vector. >From what I understand, your view of bookmarks (which was requested by several persons) is more like a web browser. In this view, there is a need to organize the bookmarks and be able to tell what every bookmark is for. However, I think we will need a better UI (a bookmark manager) to make this completely useful.
