Sorry that I bring this topic again on the list.
The goal was to merge the changes I made in my LyXWinInstaller builds to the
official source.

There are now the following things left:

--- automatic toolbar appearance ---

Speaking from the side of advertising:

LyX is a very useful and easy to learn program. This makes it easy to convince people to test it. I did this very often in the past and was disappointed about the things that are important for the users: I lost potential users due to the now fixed "Can't Enter Euro" problem and some similar stuff that I wasn't aware it is important. Now LyX nearly fullfill the expectations, but there's in my opinion one thing left: the automatic appearance of menus. We have the feature that the table toolbar is shown automatically at the bottom when the cursor is inside a table (the same for math) but this feature is not enabled by default although this behaviour is nowadays standard, look at OpenOffice.org, MS Word, etc.. But besides this assume the following case:

A new user is testing LyX. He creates a table and plays with it. Everything works fine until he wants to delete a table row: In the default setting the table toolbar isn't shown when the cursor is in a table and the table dialog has no buttons to add/delete rows/columns. The user is lost, I had this case last week. Of course we have a menu entry and a Userguide where it is explained how to set the toolbars. But this needs too much time, the users don't want to read every section of the userguide or search through the menus until they are able to delete a table line. Enabling the automatic appearance of the toolbar is at the moment also to complicated for new users, so we should at least:
- Add buttons to delete/add columns/rows in the table dialog
and, or
- enable the toolbar appearance feature by default.

In the LyXWinInstaller builds I enabled the toolbar appearance feature by
default.
