  What I am saying is the likely cause for lyx2lyx to fail is to read a newer 
version that it does not support.

  The purpose of lyx2lyx is to read, and convert, all previous file format lyx 
files. If it fails then either it is a bug or it is a new format.

  Nah... 1.4.5 will be able to write 1.3 and 1.4 files.
