Hard to tell.
I have found a workaround: I have deleted all the ".kde" directory in my
$HOME. Now it works fine. It is crazy. I had similar problems long ago
with KDE, that is why I had the idea.
Still, it would be worthwhile to try to identify the precise reason for
this. Deleting all .kde directories is not a realistic otion for all users
:-)

It is too long to identify the file responsible for this behavior: there are plenty in .kde.
Perhaps my problem is not so frequent.
If somebody else has the problem, there will be a trail.
The interesting question is - "is this a common kde problem,
or was it simply some kind of fault in the .kde setup you deleted?"

Finding the "bad" file quickly can be done this way:
1. Delete half of the files in .kde
2. Test LyX
3. if it is still slow, go to (1) again.
if it suddenly is fast, then the bad file was in the last
set of deleted files. Restore those and get rid of the rest.
   Then test again.

This is quick, because each steps removes half of the remaining files
from consideration. You will find the right file among 1000 in
only 10 steps. You have to keep track of what files
you remove at each step though.
