They should be converted to utf8 some day, but IMHO non-ASCII stuff should
only be allowed in comments, e.g. author names. I removed a lot of latin1
characters already, but I am not sure I got all.
Back to the subject, the MathMl standards defines those:

I was not talking about MathMl support of course. This page just
happened to define the correspondence between the mathed command that we
use (which are LateX IIUC) and the associated unicode symbols. Rather
that hardcode the symbols in the delimiter dialog I thought that it
would be better to make them available globally. But perhaps this is
already done in some lib/symbols?
