I would like to be consistent in the naming between ftp.lyx.org and
ftp.devel.lyx.org.

So either should have pre or either should have devel. Which one do you
favour?

While changing the name to reflect the situation in ftp.devel.lyx.org I have
replace the wrong entries, my mistake. :-(

I propose one of two scenarios, either
ftp.lyx.org:
 /pub/lyx/stable/ (all the normal releases)
 /pub/lyx/devel/ (prereleases and beta)
ftp.devel.lyx.org:
/pub/lyx/ (a copy of the normal releases)
/pub/lyx/devel/ (the prereleases and beta).

or

ftp.lyx.org:
 /pub/lyx/stable/ (all the normal releases)
 /pub/lyx/pre/ (prereleases and beta)
ftp.devel.lyx.org:
/pub/lyx/ (a copy of the normal releases)
/pub/lyx/pre/ (the prereleases and beta).
