Gaulle's french.sty versus babel's french option). There should be close to no reason to use this checkbox (it is intended for some cases of arabic or hebrew use, I think). In 1.4, the choice has been made to use always "french" as an option to babel. This means that french.sty is used with older babel versions (in teTeX2), but frenchb is actually used on newer installations. What I would like to see is the error message that you get when you run LaTeX with the 'use babel' box checked. JMarc
