It was things like Greek letters and math symbols from OOo, such as
less-than-or-equal, approx-equal etc., which displayed perfectly in LyX
and even seemed to save correctly.

Things I could easily enough change but it required a linear manual
search through the document to find them and keep trying till it worked.

If the paste routine could spot such things and map them to the
LyX/LaTeX style math insert it would be very cool indeed.
