Subject: Importance of Mathed seems to be underestimated

Dear list,

there is no question: LyX 1.5.0 is a very great jump in improvement if you
think about the whole thing. But it seems to me that the importance of a very
quick Mathed is underestimated by the development.

Although LyX is generally improving its comfort, Mathed goes the opposite way.
In older versions it was possible to insert e.g a fraction by using ALT-M-F.
This is no longer possible. You have to enter Mathed first and before
inserting ALT-M-F. You cannot write any longer the greek *alpha* in your text
by inserting ALT-M-G-a directly or insert rectangular brackets with ALT-M-[,
although ALT-M-8 is OK for round brackets. And so on. No you always have to
enter Mathed first. Navigating in Formulas with arrow keys is also not as
comfortable as it was in former times.

Since the velocity in using Mathed is decreasing I am afraid in former times
there could be a splendid and button enriched LyX which nobody uses any
longer because there are no longer advantages according to the velocity
compared with pure LaTeX.

Greetings
Heiko
