I don't think I actually said that it was "not needed". What I did say
was that it's an additional layer on top of what we already put in, and
that it would be easier to see what still needs to be done once we had
the first part committed. I also said that the patch you sent was still
not doing everything correctly --- and I'm still not sure what the
correct thing to do is. Miki --- please do try Stefan's patch and see if
it answers your needs, and if it doesn't maybe it's at least in the
right direction. But I think we need to figure out what should be done,
if anything, before writing more patches, and I'm still not clear on that...
