I don't think that  bug 3902 should stop you committing your valuable  
solution to bug 1942 as, in the Mac case, it provides a considerable  
improvement.
I'm not sure that the  bug 1942 solution has "introduced" the problem  
of  bug 3902 but, rather, has provided visibility to bug 1942.
The improvement provided by the  bug 1942 solution far outweighs any  
disadvantage due to  bug 3902.
