Using the latest gettext as a library will require a lot of work. gettext 0.15 still contained broken support for MSVC, which I could fix. In gettext 0.16, MSVC support has been dropped.
But you can try to use the internal gettext and see whether this solves your problem. If it does, the issue is related to gettext and we can use the internal one for now.
