Yes, this would be a way, but a uncomfortable way:
As my main text is very long and has lots of branches, it would be
much more convenient, if there would be a possibility to disable the
main text. Otherwise I would have to put quite a few parts into a new
branch.
Is there no other way?

Sure... just put the main text in a branch of its own, and disable it.
