ok, but apart from when the window becomes very small the sizeing/resizeing is ok? What I don't like is this need for moving from > one button to another one. i now understand what you have, separate find and replace buttons for each search direction. i think this tailors the ui to less common use cases, moreover it complicates the ui. i would suggest to do the following in terms of layout http://dl.dropbox.com/u/359550/snap4.png then the advanced and simple search dialogs are consistent and users know what to expect. it also conforms to what people are known to expect from most other applications... ed.
