There are 2 modes drawing a char in a cell:

- fixed width cell (where the drawing is fixed [more or less])

- variable width cell (where the dimensions of the tabular-column change
  and the whole tabular has to be redrawn.

I'm not sure I can do it better, but surely if someone can I would
accept patches and be happy with it. Just one has to pay REALLY attention
as otherwise in some strange situation we don't get an update!
