Joost, are there some advances in the announced 'joint' installer, so we no more proceed with the doublet official/alternative? or do we continue with the current 1.6 model? any way we should start to offer *some* official installer in case you plan to continue contributing it.
The basic framework is in place. With the new CMake build tools, the updates to the external process calling and updated external libraries, a LyX version can be compiled that works standalone without a separate launcher app or any registry keys for ImageMagick/Ghostscript etc. Everything is now also fully compatible with the latest Visual C++ 2010. This means that clicking lyx.exe will directly start the real LyX with all the right settings. So no problems with the Windows 7 taskbar anymore.
I think we should definately switch from Aspell / Aiksaurus to Hunspell / MyThes. This will also make the distribution easier (no Aspell installer to bundle).
What needs to be done is to write the NSIS code to generate the actual installers, which will be less code than what we currently have because of the before mentioned. I'd strongly prefer a situation in which multiple developers are able to generate official Windows releases. Perhaps Uwe could become the main Windows release manager if he wants to, because he's always quick with the new releases.
Unfortunately my current job keeps me extremely busy so I'm not sure when I'll have time to work on this. I will try to start working on some documentation for the build process so Uwe and other people will also be able to compile LyX with the latest versions of the external dependencies (gettext/iconv/hunspell/mythes etc.).
