My wild guess is that that pdfview thingie is using DDE commands for
opening pdf files. As Adobe changed the servername in Reader X, it
does not work anymore. LyX is not the only software which was broken.

That's correct. However, I updated pdfview to support Reader X and it's
working fine for me.
I'll try to create a debug version of pdfview that outputs some more info.
