Note that (except of German, French, Spanish and Japanese users) our users have to read the English manuals. I therefore tried to use an English as simple as possible in the docs. For me as non-native speaker the text "figures with varying height" sounds that it is about figures. So as I misunderstood it, others might too, so we need a better description here. Do you have a proposal?
Figure in this context means a numeral. There are a few phrase were this is consistently used instead of just calling it a number, as in "significant figure" or "figure of merit". If you wrote "number of merit" that would sound like broken English. Now, broken English is spoken around the world, but in this case the proper English term is preferred and a simple image of the numerals or a link, as you suggested, should clear up any ambiguities.
