if you enter the whole command-alternatives space-insert protected ; math-space it works. I suppose in your case, you do not get an empty shortcut, but a nobreakspace character, since this is what "space-insert protected" is bound to in cua.bind. I think it is not a good idea to visualize nobreakspace that way. Happy New Year to all, Jürgen
