For what it's worth my default Python is /usr/local/bin/python, which
is 2.7.6. I do have 3 installed through HomeBrew but it's not the default.
If there's anything I can do to test / debug I'm happy to do so.
This is dying during configuration. So you could try running LyX's
configure script from a terminal and see if that gives any additional
information. Or, I suppose you could just launch LyX from a terminal....
