Hi spitz,
I think you misunderstood me. It's a bit hard to provide a minimal example,
since the bug is a bit erratic and hard to reproduce.

I have noted that some of the multicites are compressed [1-3] and some are
not [1,2,3], with no visual difference in LyX interface. Both multicites
were inserted in exactly the same manner, and don't have any visible
pretext or posttext in the interface.

On a deeper examination of the issue, I found that the [1,2,3] case has a
posttext command in LyX file, and on export to LaTeX generates \cites
instead of \cite
Removing of posttext command indeed solves the issue.

If I had to guess the bug has something to do with the citation insertion
dialog in LyX.

Hope it helps.

Can you post a minimal example file please? This is actually a feature (if
you do not want qualified citation lists, use the general "Text after"
field rather than the ones for individual keys), but I might have gotten
 you wrong.
