Thanks for testing my patch, Cor! (And thanks, Jürgen, for your feedback)

I agree in principle with your proposed improvements. One possible
solution is to go back to using pixels--currently, the fullscreen
width is limited this way. It is also possible to display only inches
and cm as units.

It should also be possible to get automatic length conversion upon
selecting a different unit. It's not the default behavior elsewhere in
LyX, but it would be convenient here.
