A bisect led me here. To reproduce a SIGSEGV:

I think the issue is fixed in master now. If the result is satisfying, I
will backport this to 2.5. If there are still issues, I will probably revert
undo coalescing.

Thanks! After quick testing it seems to work well for me.

Riki, OK to backport to 2.5.x?
