Is the main issue the wrong nesting or the fonts?

For what it's worth, I get the following error with XeTeX:

  ! Missing \endcsname inserted.
  <to be read again>
  \target@series@value
  l.690 ...backslash begin\{}\textbf{\emph{環境名}}
                                                    \textbf{\} \ldots{}
  The control sequence marked <to be read again> should
  not appear between \csname and \endcsname.

I think this would be a nice convenience feature! One command-tool I find
useful is the following:

  fc-list :lang=ja

Kornel and I can adjust the font ctest uses for Japanese documents if
necessary, but I still don't understand the problem. I still get the
compilation error even with the IPAexMincho and IPAexGothic fonts
selected.
