Further info: Attached a minimum test file producing the effect, containing little more than the figure float itself. Still crashes.
1. Changing the caption to standard layout removes the crash, but
produces lots of
Operator[] called with empty n
2. Changing back to caption makes the thing crash again.
Methinks this points to layout-as-string as the culprit...
3. Having a loose caption not inside a float, and pressing Enter,
crashes too.
4. Interchanging Verse and Caption in the layout file makes no
difference: it is Caption that crashes.
