The problem is that when you have for example \foo{a_{1}},
where \foo is a macro that is not handled by LyX.
Lyx1.2 will read it as \foo a_{1} which is wrong (only the a is passed to
\foo).
I think that is a very severe bug, so I suggest you make a patch for 1.2.x
and 1.2.1 should be released very soon.
