While searching with Google to try to find some other sites on the web
that are proud to use XHTML-strict for their web site (in particular
anyone else who uses <div> instead of <table> for formatting) I found
a nice menu structure at:

I quite like their separation of entries on the nav-bar and reckon
with a tweak or two such a menu would cleanup some of the nav problems
encountered on lyx.org -- where we have overlapping groups in the
menu.
Their menu consists of:
home
about
act!
learn
opinion
press
They have a particularly well defined "about" section. I'm sure you
can imagine what kinds of stuff "act!" and "learn" could contain.
"Opinion" would be a good place for LDN archives.

I think glish is probably already known to most of us.
Shadowmuse uses <table> not <div> but has a very attractive layout --
the author looks a bit of alright too.
