| No, it is useful in some cases. For instance, you can toogle cell (not
| column/row) borders, or you can align the content of this cell different from
| the rest of the column/row you are in.
But that individual cell alignment is implemented with the same
mechanism as multicolumn is an implementional detail and should not be
shown to the user.
