Because you do it at the wrong spot! Try to "printf x()" and then after it drawed it wrong (or inside the draw function) also the x(), you will see they changed. I explained this in the earlier mails.

This is the final part of an earlier patch - we look at the lfun
definition and decide from that whether we modified the buffer
