On my OSX, there is an application "console" somewhere in the Applications folder (in a subfolder; I can't tell you the exact location, since I do not have access to the Mac right now). There you get your informations. I had problems with reconfigure too, but it turned out that I did not save the environment.plist correctly (i.e. that weird Mac Text Editor saved it as rtf).
