\include and \input, \verbatiminput and \verbatiminput*

Could someone tell me the difference between \include and \input. Also 
between \verbatiminput and \verbatiminput*. I need to provide a 
little helper blurb for the external template. Preferably in a 
non-LaTeX-centric form.
