Good question, I would like to know too. I have been using (well, trying to use during development) LyX over 56 kb/s, and it isn't pretty. Four minutes for LyX even to start up... that's *much* worse than older versions. (And there *should* be a command line switch to turn the splash screen off.) - Martin
