So (screenshot attached) you picture is that
1 (status info) is displaying 'GNU emacs'
2 (minibuffer) is currently displaying 'For information about the GNU
Project'.

Right?

Whereas in John's implentation both 'GNU emacs' and 'For information
about the GNU Project' would both be displayed in a single, always
visible widget, whilst and commands would be input in a second,
sometimes visible, sometimes hidden, widget.

Personally, I prefer John's vision.
