Wrt the 'deeper' stuff and paragraph lists in general.
I'd really like to see something like

<para>
  <list>
    <item>
      <para> ... </para>
      ...
      <para> ... </para>
    </item>
    <item>
      <para> 
        ....
        <list>
          <item>
             ....
          </item>
        </list>
      </para>
     </item>
  <list>
<para>

even if that's not current LyX internal structure.
