When your section heading contains the char '|', any text behind that char will not make it into the navigation menu, e.g. "The |real world| problem" is displayed in the navigation menu as "The".
Why do I use this char? Well, I use the csquotes package and have defined '|' as an active character for inner quotation marks. Regards, Jürgen
