Concerning Drive J:

Just to reconfirm what I wrote, this time from the computer where the problem originally arose. I installed Lyxwin 1.4.1.svn right now from the Link in the Wiki LyxWin 1.4.x page. No problem this time with installing in C:\Program Files\Lyx1.4.

I have a card reader attached that has drive letters I:, J:, and K: assigned to it (for various types of cards). J: is assigned to a smart card slot which I don't use.

The problem described disappears if I do one of the following:

1. Reassign another letter to the smart cars slot (such that J: is not assigtned to any drive

2. Reassign J: to a used slot (in my case the compact flash slot) and inserting a card.

3. Remove the card reader.

Conclusion: You should have either no drive assigned to J: or a drive with an inserted medium.

Seems to be the same problem as Stacia Hartleben's, as Paul mentions it. Angus noted that this was not a problem in 1.3.7. Maybe this is only partially true, because 1.3.7 used to issue two or three warnings about missing drives while starting on this damned computer which I canceled to get on with my work, but always wanted to check and report. Maybe it is a related issue.

I hope that these observations help to solve the problem. I opt for solution 1. at the moment and can now look forward to trying the new Lyx 1.4.1 (as time permits).

I hope that this bug is not too difficult to resolve.
