1. It looks better... more logical. You actually see the caption as an
entity. You can put a graphic inside it if you really want, but you
won't do it accidentally. And if you press enter, you don't suddenly
have two captions (which has special code now to prevent it.)
2. Cleaner code. The caption layout handling ("sensitive") is just one
more complication in an already complicated layout code we can do
without, relatively minor as it is.
3. This will make it easier to code it so that you get a caption under a
figure, but above a table, etc, automatically. That would be the next
step.
4. Lars will be a tiny little bit happier.
